Core Lab Service Agreements

What is a Core Lab?

UW–Madison cores are shared resources which offer a wide range of services dedicated to the support of research. Cores provide access to instruments, technologies, services, training, and expert consultation.

Fee for Service Activities for Outside Vendors

Research cores may receive requests from industry partners to provide one or more of their specialized services.  If the request is for one of the standard services provided under the core, it may be possible to use a one-party term sheet in lieu of a Fee for Service agreement.

Agreements offer protections for both the lab and UW, including outlining the obligations of the service recipient in terms of payment, and setting expectations for the Deliverables.  Since the services provided are typically experimental in nature, we typically don’t offer warranties as to the condition of the Deliverables, or that the Deliverables will work for a particular purpose.

The SMPH Contract Office can assist in developing a term sheet for the core lab.  The term sheet is a short form contract that can expedite the contracting process.  This term sheet can be finalized with only the signatory of the service recipient, so long as they accept the template as is.  This reduces the administrative burden and allows the core facility to focus on their mission activities.
